Call back or international call back as it is often termed is essentially a dial around service. In principal you dial a service access or trigger number and hang up as soon as it rings. Part of the access number may be a personal PIN or access code. Within a short period the call back service will call you back and provide a dial tone or instruction. You then dial the number you require and your call will be switched using your international callback carrier. You may be required to enter * or # at the end of the number. Call back carriers coexist with your existing service so they are used as a parallel service. They are also extensively used to bypass the local carriers as they are often considerably cheaper than the local carrier. This type of service is also well suited for travellers who use callback to bypass expensive systems like hotels and leisure resorts.

Calling from within the USA:-
Destination:- USA, Canada, Hawaii etc Dial 1 + area code + number eg 1 456 767 6789 (possibly followed by * or #)
Other non US countries Dial country code + area code + number eg 27 31 456 6789 (possibly followed by * or #)
International call back is also available via the internet. This is termed " web based call back !" The principle is exactly the same as the phone based version. The only difference is that you use a computer to trigger the call. This can be done from a website using an access code and the number to be called. (Remember to add the country and area codes or use the drop down country menus). It can be done by email as well. This method is common where phones are barred from international use either by the local phone company or by business organizations. In some countries callback is illegal so web based calling is used as it appears only as an incoming call. Some countries tax callback calls as a method of keeping international calls "in house".
A final caveat on international call back. You should be aware that if you are dealing with a foreign language service, complaints, faults, billing difficulties and time differences may present a problem. As a basic precaution, verify that customer service is available in your home language.
